Essex and Wales collide as Gavin and Stacey fall in love, bringing their friends, family and baggage with them. With the exception of the scenes filmed in London in the first episode, the entire series was filmed in Wales, including the scenes set in Essex. The house that was used as the Shipmans’ home (Gavin’s family) is Dinas Powys, a village 1 mile north-west of Barry, where the Wests (Stacey’s family) live. In episode 3, both Bryn and Gavin’s cars have completely different number plates to the previous episode. Gavin’s blue Sax has been changed from a T-reg (MY 1999) to an X-reg (MY 2000). Bryn’s green Picasso has been changed from a CV02 (MY 2002, registered Cardiff) to an HV54 (MY 2004, registered Portsmouth). They are obviously different cars. This is truly one of the greatest comedy series I have seen in recent years. It follows the relationship between Gavin (Matthew Horne: Teachers and Catherine Tate) and Stacey (Joanna Page) from their initial flirtation on the phone to their wedding day and then into married life. This show was brilliantly written by James Corden and Ruth Jones who also play Gavin and Stacey’s best friends Smithy and Nessa (who totally steal the show in my opinion). Those who have rated this show poorly clearly have no sense of humour and cannot appreciate decent comedy!
